June 24 -- Robert C. Johnson, for the past 20 years a resident of this place, died last evening at 7 o'clock, after an illness with cancer that has covered a period of two years. Mr. Johnson first noticed the trouble when it made its appearance near the right eye. The growth became such that it was necessary for him to submit to an operation, whereby his eye was removed. Then the liver became affected, and with it, all the internal organs were more or less involved. For several months it has been considered only a question of time until the end would come, and for the past few weeks, his death has been expected daily. Mr. Johnson was born 46 years ago near Steubenville, Jefferson county, Ohio. When five years of age he came west with this parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, who located at Hayne's Grove five or six miles southwest of Marshalltown. There the son Robert grew to manhood and left for Crawford county, where he was united in marriage with Miss Dila Frazer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Frazer, for many years residents of Marshalltown, and well known here. He moved back here shortly after his marriage, and has lived here ever since, following his trade, that of a carpenter, until his health became such that it was necessary for him to give it up. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife and five children, three sons and two daughters. Three brothers and three sisters also survive him. They are E. K. Johnson, of Manning, Richard Johnson of Shenandoah, John Johnson of Exira, Mrs. Myron Woodard, of La Moille, Mrs. Henry Hapenstall of Joliet, Illinois, and Mrs. E.J. Parsons, of Collyer, Kansas. The funeral will be held at the Christian Church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.
