Preceding him in death was his wife, Deloris Ann (Curry) Astley, parents John and Lenora Astley and Evelyn and Jim McCauley, brothers John Michael Astley and Chuck Astley. Bob’s work career included Owner of Bob’s Northside Texaco station, Matco Tool Rep, Mechanic, and Concrete Truck Driver. He enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, and square dancing with his wife Deloris. You may have also heard him sing Karaoke at his favorite bar on a Saturday night. One of his favorite songs to sing was “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. One thing is for sure Bob didn’t know a stranger and would talk to anyone and make them feel welcome. In his later years he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and picking them up from school when he thought it was “too cold for them to walk.” His big personality and laugh will be missed. A funeral service will be 10AM, Thursday, June 6, 2019, Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50317. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday June 5, with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7pm. Interment in Altoona Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
