He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in Bethel Presbyterian church May 1, 1938. He attended West Union schools, graduating in 1940. Robert entered the armed forces on Sept. 22, 1942, and served overseas in the Pacific War area. He was honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1946. On May 9, 1948 he was united in marriage with Katherine Palmer. Two sons were born to them, Jerry and Robert Christensen.
