Description	:	FOSTER, BAKER age 32 was shot and killed on Friday by his neighbor, Walter Seal, age 30. The tragedy appears to have been the result of a sudden quarrel rather than a grudge. When the officers went to the scene... Read More	FOSTER, BAKER age 32 was shot and killed on Friday by his neighbor, Walter Seal, age 30. The tragedy appears to have been the result of a sudden quarrel rather than a grudge. Foster who seems to have borne the reputation of being quarrelsome & whose prowess in a hand to hand combat had been shown on many occasions, is said to have been advancing on Seal with a rock in each hand & one in his pocket, when he was stopped by the shot fired from a distance of about six steps. When the officers went to the scene Foster whose position had not been disturbed was sprawled forward on his face dead with the rocks on the ground a few inches forward from each hand. Seal made no effort to escape & was arrested at his home a few hours after the shooting & is now in jail in Luray. Those at the scene of the shooting which was on a public road through the Foster land a few hundred yards West of the Shenandoah River, were Seal, his father-in-law, Dee Kibler, the latter's 15 year old son, Lynn Kibler, Baker Foster & Mrs. Baker Foster, Willis Dearing Kibler, age 22, another son of Dee Kibler had been sent to town by his father to secure a warrant for Foster on account of threats made by Foster during a quarrel with the Kiblers and Seal earlier in the day. The Kibler party were hauling fodder on the M. E. Roudabush place, formerly the David Atwood place and were returning to work after dinner, Dee Kibler & his son, Lynn, each riding and leading a horse and Seal was on foot. Foster, evidently infuriated on account of the misunderstanding earlier in the day was seen coming and yelled to the Kibler party to keep off his land. It seems that Foster's father, Edward Foster of Charles Town owns a strip of land that runs down to the River separating the Doc Moyer place & the Atwood place, both owned by Mr. Roudabush & both being cropped by the Kiblers & Seal. Mrs. Baker Foster ran past her husband went to Seal begging him not to shoot. The Kiblers say that Foster cried, "I will kill every damn one of you", & kept advancing rocks in hand and told Seal to "Shoot and be damned" One report is that Dee Kibler, still on his horse, told his son-in-law to shoot. At any rate the fatal discharge of the single barrel shotgun from a distance of about six steps followed & Foster fell in the road. In the earlier altercation which occurred about 10 a.m. Foster, according to Dee Kibler came to the latter & a man named Painter, employed by Mr. Roudabush, who were working in the corn field and drawing a flask from his pocket offered the two men a drink which they accepted.
