Deceased was born in Clinton county, Ohio, Oct. 7, 1822. From there he moved to Wayne county, Indiana. Was married Dec. 31, 1843, to Miss Ary Ann McCashlan. The family moved to Illinois in 1847, where they resided until 1877 when they moved to Cloud county, Kansas. While living in Illinois he united with the M.E. church, but never with any other after coming to Kansas. He had his first stroke of paralysis in 1892. He nearly recovered from that and did not have another until July 22, 1895, when he was rendered helpless until the day of his death. He received a third stroke a few days before he passed away, which no doubt ended his life on earth. He leaves six children, four sons and two daughters, to mourn his departure, all of which are living in Cloud county. A brother and sister in Illinois, and one brother, near Glasco, are the only survivors of his father's family. Father Pilcher was a very patient sufferer through all his affliction. The writer of this called upon him quite frequently and in response to the question, "How are you today?" would always say, "About the same." He said once, when the subject of a better world than this was talked about, that if it were not for that he did not know what he would do. May we not all hope that his last conscious moments were those of peace with his Lord? We believe he had a warning that the end was near, when he received his last stroke of paralysis. He spoke discouragingly of his recovery after that. In the dead hour of night, his spirit took its departure. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church of this place, conducted by Rev. B.F. McMillan of the Presbyterian church. A very large crowd attended the funeral, as the deceased was widely known and highly respected. B.F.M.
