The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 23, at Kinsley Mortuary. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ. Music included "Beyond the Sunset" and "Abide with Me". The pallbearers were his step-grandsons, Shannon Swearingin, Brayden Johnston, Brandon Johnston, Lance Anderson, Kurtis Larson, Joel Sunnenberg and Justin Brenner. Robert was born on April 11, 1933 at Marysville, KS, to William and Mary Elizabeth (Lloyd) Cockerill. He attended Marysville schools and graduated high school in 1951. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, after serving during the Korean Conflict. Robert was a custodian for Marshall County. He was a member of D.A.V. and the American Legion. In 1956, he married Marvall Sunderland at Marysville. They were blessed with three children. She died November 16, 1980. On June 2, 1984, Robert married Lila Lee Hofeling at Blue Rapids. She survives. Other survivors include his sons, Edwin Cockerill, Denver, CO, Robert (Wanda) Cockerill, St. George, KS; daughter, Debra Kay (Rich) Cole, St. George, UT; step-children, Richard Johnston, Blue Rapids, Tena (Kurt) Larson, Waterville, Carol L. Johnston, Blue Rapids, Amanda Anderson, Mankato, KS, and Sue (Jim) Brenner, Randolph, KS; sister, Patsy Ruth Hogan, Topeka; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Proceeding him in death were his parents; first wife, Marvall; and step-grandson, Josh Zirger. Kinsley Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Source: kinsleymortuary.com
