Hildwein, 71, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died early Saturday morning, July 4, 2009, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. Hildwein (July 3, 1938 - July 4, 2009) Brown County native Robert D. Hildwein, 71, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died early Saturday morning, July 4, 2009, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. Bob was born at Horton, July 3, 1938, one of two children born to Leonard and Gloria Clement Hildwein. The family lived on a farm southeast of Hamlin and Bob attended Hamlin schools, later graduating from Hamlin High School in 1956. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until 1960, stationed at Bartlesville, OK, and served with the radar unit, discharged at the rank of airman second class. Bob was a ground crew worker, starting with Braniff Airlines, later with TWA, for a total of 45 years of service, retiring at age 66. He lived in many of the major cities across the United States, but the last 20 years, was spent in Las Vegas. Bob in recent days returned to Kansas to be near his sister and her family. Survivors include a sister Patsy Killoren and husband Gene of rural Hiawatha; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7. Family and friends will then go in procession for graveside services at Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors. Pastor Greg Pudwill, of the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Robert Hildwein Memorial Fund which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
