"Bob" Leiferman, 74, of Chamberlain, S.D., will be Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Robert D. Leiferman was born on July 24, 1932, at Chamberlain to John W. and Isabel (Kratochwill) Leiferman. He attended country school and graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1950. Bob attended the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, before transferring to Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, S.D. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years and after his discharge he finished college at Springfield. On Nov. 9, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Avis Turgeon at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain. He was employed with the Department of Health in Pierre and Mitchell for 10 years and in 1969 purchased the Standard Oil Bulk business in Chamberlain, which he owned and operated for 25 years. After his retirement, Bob began selling real estate in his spare time. Bob loved basketball and football, rarely missing a game. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, a lifetime honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, a past member of the Kiwanis, and presently a Brule County Commissioner. Bob passed away on Sept. 28, 2006, in Chamberlain. Survivors include his wife, Avis Leiferman of Chamberlain; sons, Monte Leiferman and wife, Cathy of Chamberlain, and Mark Leiferman and wife, Angel of Pierre; a daughter, Karla Grosz and husband, Evan of Rapid City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Bill Leiferman and wife, Lynette of Pukwana; and a brother-in-law, Calvin Pipal of Platte. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Donna Krebs and Wanda Pipal; brother, Bernard; a brother-in-law, Dale Krebs; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Leiferman.
