Bob was born on Jan. 1, 1925, to George and Edythe (DeMars) in Staples, Minn. He was stationed at Sioux City Air Base, training as a member of a B-17 bomber crew. He married Sybil Whalen on April 12, 1944, in Sioux City, before leaving for World War II. They purchased their first home in Sioux City and raised a wonderful family of seven children, Bobett Kriech (David) of Keller, Texas, Gary (Rhonda) of Westfield, Iowa, Mike (Marilyn) of Haslet, Texas, Shawn (Darnell) of Danbury, Iowa, Mary Hodgins (Steve) of Cold Spring, Minn., Teresa Dennehey (heaven), and Shannan "Precious" Daniels (Ted) of Monticello, Minn. Bob had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren to which we have lost count. Robert was a member of the 185th Tactical Fighter Group as a full-time air technician from December 1948 through his retirement in 1982. Bob served in World War ll as a B-17 flight crew member and was stationed with the 15th Air Force in Italy. He was credited with successfully eliminating half of the enemy aircraft squadron that was threatening American military. For this he was wounded and received the Purple Heart for putting his life on the line. He was activated for the Korean conflict to serve. Bob was always willing and ready to serve for the love of his country. He served a 12-month tour in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Robert enjoyed flying airplanes, making model planes, golfing and several other hobbies. Robert enjoyed his lake home, pulling grandkids around on tubes and his most enjoyment was to see who he could knock off the tubes. He wasn't fond of fishing, but if Sybil was having fun he was always a willing participant or just did what he was told. He was great at detailing cabin rules. He had such a sense of humor that entertained his family up until his final hours. He is now with the love of his life to whom he was married for 58 years and will be enjoying Christmas. He will be remembered lovingly by his family and special friends, Renae, Anna and Lorenzo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil; children, Rosemary, George, and Teresa; grandson, Sean; a baby girl, Hodgins; parents; and siblings, Don and Elayne Dennehey and Jean Quance.
