Description	:	Robert Klassy, age 96, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Bethel Lutheran Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 12th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father DeWayne Kayser as the Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday at Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue 9:30-10:15 AM on Saturday at Weiland Funeral Chapel followed by process to the church for mass. Robert “Bob” David Klassy was born on November 17, 1922 in Madison, SD, the son of Benjamin E. & Vinnie E. (Heyer) Klassy. He attended country school in the Rutland area and worked for various farmers. He eventually joined the U.S. Civil Service, where he repaired airplanes at Patterson Field near Fairfield, OH. In 1942, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and specialized in torpedo testing. While in the Navy, Bob met his wife of 73 years, Lena Pizzirusso. They were married on June 1, 1946 in Nanticoke, PA. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, they moved to Madison and began his electrical training with Ralph Cumming’s Electric. In 1953, Bob and Lena moved north of Madison to the Hemre farm and later moved to the Frank Kehrwald farm. Bob farmed and had his electrical business until retiring in 2004. At that time, they moved to Madison, SD. Bob had a lifelong love of gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church of Madison and the American Legion of Nunda, SD. Bob is survived by his wife, Lena; children, Sandra (Lowell) Christensen, Debra (Keith) Bettes, Jon (Dawn) Klassy, Susan (Bob) Darrah & Tim (Lindsay) Klassy; ten grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren and one brother, Ray Klassy. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Jr.; his parents; three sisters, Fern Alfson, Ruth Brown, Lois Lohrman and three brothers, Vincent, Benned & Dale. - Weiland Funeral Chapel
