Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, 3147 Middle Hesper Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Nancy Solomonson presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bob is survived by his wife: Grace Peterson, Decorah, IA. One son: Lauren Peterson, Sparta, WI. Two grandsons: Justin and Trey Peterson. One sister: Helen (Rev. O. Paul) Hougen, Decorah, IA. One brother: Charles (Rose) Peterson, Decorah, IA, One sister-in-law: Lorraine Peterson, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lenora (Danielson) Peterson, Sr. One son: Donnie Peterson. Two sisters: Lucella (Virgil) Bender and Doris (Walter) Bender. Two brothers: Ervin (Dorothy) Peterson and John Peterson. His father and mother-in-law: Olaf and Hazel (Melberg) Sivesind. One sister-in-law: Connie Lynch and one brother-in-law: Earl (Beverly) Sivesind. Robert Dean "Bob" Peterson was born April 3, 1925, the son of John and Lenora (Danielson) Peterson on the Peterson family farm north of Decorah. Bob was baptized and confirmed at the Hauge Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Canoe Township near the Peterson farm. Bob was united in marriage to Grace Sivesind Aug. 15, 1948, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. Bob worked as a mechanic for R.W. Klinker in Decorah and then for his brother, Ervin Peterson at Peterson Sales and Service in Decorah and Calmar. Bob built a building by the North Winneshiek School, where he worked on vehicles and also did maintenance work for the North Winn School. In 1969, Bob and Grace moved to Colorado Springs, where Bob was a supervisor for many gas stations for a year and a half. They returned to Decorah and Bob operated the Sinclair Gas Station on College Drive for many years. Bob also drove the Northeast Iowa Transit Bus for twenty years, where he worked well into his seventies. Bob was a member of the Hauge Lutheran Church, where he was an active member all of his life and was also the oldest living member. Bob enjoyed making people smile and always had a smile in return.
