Born on April 20, 1951, at the Boone County Hospital, Bob was the son of Neil and Gladys (DeBoer) Ripley. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1969, where he was voted most witty and enlisted in the United State Marine Corps. Following two years of service in the Marines, Bob attended Iowa State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was united in marriage to Vicki Wilson on June 30, 1973, at Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames. Two children, Carisa and Brandon, were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Bob worked for Mary Greeley Medical Center in the business office as the controller until his retirement in 2007. He was united in marriage to Judy Donovan in 2008. They later divorced. During his younger years, Bob was an outstanding athlete. He played basketball and enjoyed running. Bob continued his enjoyment of sports by following the New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes. He also supported the Madrid Tigers football team by attending games with his brother and friends for many years. Bob was a great dancer and loved his classic rock. He was level-headed but brought life to the party wherever he went. Bob loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Although not always a believer, Bob eventually did believe in his Savior and taught family Bible studies. He was a great caretaker and volunteered his time delivering Meals on Wheel. Bob is survived by his children, Carisa (Shawn) Danielson, of Ames, and Brandon Ripley, of Ames; his grandchildren, LaiLah Jayd Ripley, of Des Moines, and Jaxon, Treyton and Addyson Danielson, of Ames; his siblings, Merwyn (Nancy) Ripley, of Ames, Barb Magnuson, of Ames, and June (Robert) Kirkpatrick, of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Magnuson. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation.
