"Bob" Young, 87, of Kimball, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at the Kimball County Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday, January 31, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball Cemetery. He was born May 18, 1913, in Kimball to William T. and Olive M. (Vogler) Young. He attended school in Kimball, except for a partial school year in Pasadena, Calif., when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1930 and from the University of Nebraska in 1935 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the University of Nebraska Boxing Team. He married Dorcas L. Carlson on September 27, 1941. They lived in Banner County for a short time until moving to Kimball. He farmed in Banner County and Laramie County, Wyo., raising wheat, potatoes, barley, oats, rye, safflower and sunflowers. He and his brother, Bud owned a potato cellar and grain elevator at Albin, Wyo. for several years. He was president of the Kimball County Grade School Board when the Mary Lynch School was built, and he was President of the Kimball County High School Board when construction of the new Kimball County High School was approved. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kimball Masonic Lodge 294, as well as the Masonic Scottish Rite and Shriner's Lodges. He served on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Certified Potato Growers Association. He was also a member of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics Advisory Council. He is survived by his wife, Dorcas of Kimball; son, Tom of Kimball, son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Virginia of Gering, and son and daughter-in-law, Don and Clarissa of Yuma, Arizona; his brother, Lawrence of Kimball; and grandsons, Shawn and Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Memorial gifts have been established to the Trinity United Methodist Church and to the Kimball County Hospital Foundation.
