Bob, the son of John Arthur and Etta Myrtle (Bartow) Parmenter, was born Sept. 10, 1921, at the family Rock House in rural Gering in which his grandparents, Albert and Mary Parmenter lived. He graduated with the class of 1940 from Melbeta High School, where he was the salutatorian of his senior class. While in high school, Bob was active in sports and during his senior year, his basketball team participated in the Nebraska State High School Basketball Tournament. He farmed for a time following high school and then worked with his father, brother and brothers-in-law in the plastering and stucco business. He married Johanna Elizabeth "Betty" Schafer on Aug. 21, 1947, at the Christian Church in Gering, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary this past August. He was later in the flooring business for a time before returning to farming with his sons near Lake Minatare, Angora, and his home place before retiring in 1990. Bob was one of the founding members of the Coad Valley Pig Club, was a member of Scottsbluff Elks Lodge #1367, was a member of the Scottsbluff Men's Bowling Association and was a former member of the Melbeta School Board. Aside from his family, Bob's greatest love was bowling. At the age of 86 he was still bowling 200 games and in 1965 he won the men's singles bowling tournament. He also liked Cornhusker football, doing crossword puzzles and a good game of pinochle. He is survived by his wife Betty of rural Gering, children Kathryn McCool of Gering, Shirley (Ralph) Baker of Pocatello, Idaho, Virginia Parmenter of Gering, Joan (Wade) Hall of Boise, Idaho, Nancy Aguirre of Gering, Peggy (Tom) Welsch of Morrill, R.J. (Sandy) Parmenter of Scottsbluff, Roger Parmenter of Gering, Mary Parmenter of Scottsbluff, Michele (Steve) Flott of Omaha and Paul (Lana) Parmenter of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Jeff (Carrie) McCool, Jacob (Youngsun) Baker, Johanna (Sam) Jones, Rebecca (Brian) Berls, Benjamin (Nicole) Baker, Heidi Baker, Heather Baker, Andrew Baker, Adam Baker, David (Telena) Hall, Natricia (Scott) Christopherson, Kimberly Hall, Sarah Aguirre, Amanda (Shawn) Strong, Jennifer Aguirre, Joanna Aguirre, Tom (Crystal) Welsch, John (Tiffany) Welsch, Daniel (Kayleigh) Welsch, Jamie (Nick) Holstein, Melissa (Carl) Spearman, Kristin Jones, Bobbi Parmenter, Anna Flott, Caleb Flott, Zachary Flott and Tyler Flott; and great grandchildren Robert Michael McCool, Amy and Michael Baker, Brayden Berls, Ryan Christopherson, Chad Hall, Joshua and Cash Welsch, Alexzander Welsch, Cayden and Kellen Spearman, Artaysia and Tre' Jones, and Draven Hagen, and was looking forward to the birth of six more great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Marie Lackey, Don (Dot) Parmenter, Gladys (Jerry) Doremus, Mildred Fitts, Dorothy Ault, Doyle (Joan) Parmenter, Barbara Broderick, brother in law Dick Becker, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Bob McCool, infant sisters Mabel and Grace, sister Janice Becker, brothers-in-law Jim Ault, Stuart Fitts, Dale Lackey, Charles Schafer, Charles Rossiter, and sister-in-law Dorothy Rossiter
