He was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Yadkin County to Houston Jones and Minnie Lee Hall Steelman. Mr. Steelman was a member of East Bend Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Edna L. Steelman of the home; three children, Judy S. Read More	US NAVY WORLD WAR II EAST BEND - Mr. Robert Edward Steelman, 77, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at his home. He was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Yadkin County to Houston Jones and Minnie Lee Hall Steelman. Mr. Steelman was a member of East Bend Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Edna L. Steelman of the home; three children, Judy S. Painter and friend George Smitherman of East Bend, Andrea S. (Gordon) Simms of Alberta, Canada and Theresa S. (Jack) Cook of East Bend; a sister, Betty McNeil of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law, Edith Steelman of Elkin and Gladys Steelman of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, Graham Shumate of Boonville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend by Dr. Gordon Simms and the Rev. Jim Cohn. Burial will follow at East Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to the East Bend Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Dorothy Potter, 501 Fairground Road, East Bend, NC 27018. Published in Winston-Salem Journal from April 3 to April 4, 2003
