Description	:	Robert E. Groth, age 90, of Elkton, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the United Parish of Elkton, with interment and military rites in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Robert Edwin Groth was born May 11, 1920, at Ideal, South Dakota, to Robert and Julia (Tronvold) Groth. He attended grade school at Bovee and high school in Geddes. He received a football scholarship and attended SDSU. He joined the Army National Guard transportation unit in Brookings in 1939, and the unit was mobilized February 10, 1941, and deployed to Camp Claiborne in Louisiana for a year. He served four and a half years overseas during World War II, including the battle campaigns of Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and the Po Valley. On May 9, 1950, Robert married Marion Jensen at Luverne, Minnesota. The couple lived in Sioux Falls where Robert was parts manager for Case Equipment. He was transferred to Billings, Montana, and they later returned to Platte, South Dakota, where they farmed. They moved to Elkton in 1982, and Robert continued working for other farmers during his retirement. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and woodworking, gardening, reading, and attending dances with Marion. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Marion Groth, of Elkton; a son, Lawrence (Rosemary) Groth, of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law, Teresa Groth, of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Bud" Groth in 1994; brothers, Jerald and Hadley; and a sister, Margaret Rasmussen.
