He died April 23, 1991, at his home west of Randolph, Iowa. Robert graduated from Malvern High School in 1932 and continued his education at the University of Iowa's School of Engineering. Read More	Malvern Leader 2 May 1991 Robert Edwin Upson Benton was born September 15, 1915, near Malvern, Iowa, to Edwin Upson Benton and Laura Jane (Ranne) Benton. He died April 23, 1991, at his home west of Randolph, Iowa. Robert graduated from Malvern High School in 1932 and continued his education at the University of Iowa's School of Engineering. On January 15, 1944, he was married to Dorothy Nadine Hallum and they had three sons: Harry Edwin, Robert Keith and one son who died in infancy. Robert and Dorothy kept busy raising their family and farming and they were very active in community affairs. For 30 years Bob served as director of the Randolph State Bank. He was a member of Fremont-Mills School Board, the rural fire department, the 4-H Extension Council, the Fremont County Zoning Commission, the F. H. A. County Committee, the Shenandoah Elks Club and the Tabor Congregational Church. After 33 years of marriage, Dorothy died following a lengthy illness. On January 2, 1980, Robert was married to Dr. Phyllis (Wilson) Connor. He welcomed into his family Phyllis' daighter Ellen Leonard of Omaha and her son Douglas Connor of Malvern and their families. Phyllis died January 17, 1986. Robert was also preceded in death by his infant son and his parents. Left cherish his memory are his sons: Harry and wife Barbara of Malvern, Robert and wife Janet of Sidney, step-children Ellen Leonard and husband James of Omaha, and Doug Connor and wife Virginia of Malvern; grandchildren Kimberly and Robert Benton of Malvern, Valerie, Cherie and Matthew Benton of Sidney; step-grandchildren Michael and Loretta Leonard of Omaha and Amy and Heather Connor of Malvern; a sister Marian Tyler and her husband Robert of Shenandoah; and nieces and nephews, Services were held Friday, April 26, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern with the Rev. Leon Lebuda officiating. Visitation was held Thursday at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Rod Goy, Randy Hickey, Raburn Benton, Randy Sulhoff, Mark Kilpatrick and J. Randel Smith. Honorary pallbearers included Stewart Hall, L. T. Genung, Jum Ford, Don Bell, Allen Carlson, Raymond Waller and Paul Kilpatrick. Barbara Kilpatrick was the registry book attendant and Jane Smith and JoAnn Shaw were in charge of the flowers. JoAnna Perkins as organist provided musical selections of "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer."
