Robert was married previously to Ruth J. (Nelson) Lindgren (1900-1938) on June 2, 1921 in Billings, Yellowstone, Montana. Robert was the son of Adolph and Emma Lindgren. Obituary from the Big Timber Pioneer, May 18, 1961: "Robert E. Lindgren dies in Livingston - Robert E. Lindgren, former Sweet Grass county rancher, died unexpectedly Wednesday night of last week at the Livingston Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the American Lutheran church in Livingston, with Rev. Peder-Waldum officiating. Music was by Ellen Waldum and Joyce Mosbach, and burial was in Mountain View cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers were Leonard and Merle Adams, Stanley Phillips, Ed Kinnick, Robert Criger and Duane Linneman. Honorary pall bearers were Albert Gehlhausen and Leo Bair of Livingston and Howard Huyser,' Alex Watson and Lon Blancet of Big Timber. Mr. Lindgren was born Aug. 19, 1898, in Clinton, la., and as a small boy moved with his father to Philip, S. D., where he was educated. He served in World War I and in 1919 moved to Columbus. His first, wife died in Columbus. He married Maxine Smith Jan. 24, 1939, in Big Timber, and the family moved to the old Lou Webb ranch on Otter creek in 1943. About four years later they purchased the old Loasby place this side of McLeod on the Boulder and after selling out there about eight years ago moved to Livingston where he was associated with the Livingston Packing Co. until 1954 when he went into partnership in the lumber business with Albert Gehlhausen. He was co-owner of the Livingston Lumber Co. at the time of his death. Mr. Lindgren was a member of the American Lutheran church, American Legion post 19 in Big Timber, the Masonic Lodge of Big Timber, the Scottish Rite bodies of Livingston and A1 Bedoo Shrine temple, Billings. Survivors besides his widow are his daughter, Phyllis, student at Montana State university; two sons, Robert Lindgren of Soap Lake. Wash., and Richard Lindgren of Meeteetse, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs.. Ellen Everetts and Mrs. Frances Dreu, both of Philip; two brothers, Carl Lindgren of Philip and Bill Lindgren of Corvallis, Ore.; also four grandchildren."
