Services at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, burial in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. Mr. Patterson was born in Marshall County and had lived in the Gilman area most of his life. He was a retired grain and livestock farmer, owned a Century Farm, and was recognized for his soil conservation efforts. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Gilman and a charter member of the Gilman Lions Club. He served on the Gilman City Council, Gilman School Board, and Gilman Fire Department. He was a founder of the Gilman Medical Clinic. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, a son Tom of Gilman; three daughters, Kathy Davis of Arlington, Texas, Sally Kriegel of Gilman, and Joyce Harris of Waukee; three brothers, Jerry of Pico Rivera, California, and Ward and Frank both of Gilman; and seven grandchildren.
