Description	:	Eugene was the son of Elisha Thompson McKenzie and Linda Stanley, and had siblings Wayne, LeRoy, and Wanda and a half brother, Kermit from his father's first marriage. He had other half siblings from Elisha's marriage to Martha: Hubert, Royce, Joyce, and Faye. He was married to Eva Mae Kersey and they left Tennessee and made their home in Joliet, Illinois. According to an entry in a family Bible, Gene entered the US Army December 2, 1946 and was discharged February 24, 195? He had been stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, saw combat duty in Korea, and was awarded the purple heart. These dates present a problem with the birth date on his death certificate which says October 8, 1927 (the informant was his brother Lee Roy) for he is not in the 1930 census. His death certificate states that he was a plumber and died of a heart attack. He was living on Hwy 30 at Reliance at the time. Note: The picture of Gene and his brother Lee Roy was shared by his daughter, Tina. The one of his wife Eva, son Hoyett, and Eva's daughter, Yolanda Smith was shared by Hoyett.
