Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Federated Church, Carrington. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Mr. Reimers was born to Fernando Frederick and Clara Alice (Walters) Reimers on June 15, 1923, in Bordulac, N.D. He grew up in the Bordulac area, graduating from Carrington High School. From there he attended North Dakota State University at Fargo. Ineligible for military service due to prior injuries, he returned to the Carrington area to help on his father's farm during World War II. On June 24, 1945, he married Carol Fortney of Bowdon. He then started farming and raising sheep on 160 acres of land just south of Melville. The farm ultimately grew to it's present day size of about 6,500 acres. The feed processing plant for the feedlot grew to become what is today Reimers Seed Co., a major area supplier of certified seeds and farm chemicals. When his aunt, Katherine Nicholson, passed away, he purchased Nicholson Elevator Co. servicing the Carrington area. In 1965, he cleared 1,500 leased acres in the Beeville, Texas, area for raising flax. This led to a winter residence first in Beeville and since 1975 in Rockport, Texas. Always active in local political affairs, Mr. Reimers was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives from Stutsman County in 1960. He served in the legislature for 16 years, half of the time as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 1975 session. Following the end of his elective political career, Mr. Reimers was honored in a "Bob Reimers Appreciation Day" sponsored by his Stutsman County constituents and attended by dignitaries from across North Dakota. Mr. Reimers was also active in agricultural development. He was a long-time member of the N.D. Crop Improvement Association, the N.D. Farm Managers, N.D. Durum Growers and the NDSU Advisory Committee. He served on the NDSU Foundation Board from 1977 to 1997. He was awarded several agricultural service awards, including "1979 Agribusiness Man of the Year" for North Dakota. Mr. Reimers was a lifelong member of the Federated Church of Carrington, a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge and Elks including the Jamestown Clowns. In Rockport, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Rockport Country Club and served on it's board of directors for many years. Mr. Reimers' life was characterized by hard work, a love of life and family, and a history of quietly helping others. He loved flying and his boat the "Snowbird". "Grandpa Bob" was loved by all of his family. He is survived by his wife, Carol, Carrington; his daughter, Ann (Ernie) Hoffert, Carrington; his son, Steve (Jeanne), Falls Church, Va.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Pat (Frank) Saunders, Bird Island, Minn., and Mae (Jack) Sheets, Carrington; one sister-in-law, Mary Reimers, Napa, Calif.; and one brother, Steve (Jeanette), Carrington. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William.
