Mr. Robert Foster, who died at his late residence in Mitchell county, Iowa, near Riceville, was born in Mill Creek, Erie county, Pennsylvania, March 28, 1809. At the age of 22, he lost his left arm by the accidental discharge of his gun at a general training, of a regiment to which he belonged. Mr. Robert Foster, who died at his late residence in Mitchell county, Iowa, near Riceville, was born in Mill Creek, Erie county, Pennsylvania, March 28, 1809. At the age of 22, he lost his left arm by the accidental discharge of his gun at a general training, of a regiment to which he belonged. The 26th of April 1838, he was married with Elizabeth Warren, He was constable and deputy sheriff a number of years, coming West in 1853; remaining in Indiana two years, taking up his abode early in 1855, settling near where Riceville now is. He battled successfully with the hardships of frontier life, and with the help and encouragement of his estimable wife, made a comfortable home, supporting a large family of children. He was a kind and generous neighbor, a peaceful citizen, loyal and true. While he did not belong to any church, he left evidence that he believed in Christianity. Up to about the first of January, Mr. Foster enjoyed good health; since then he had two paralytic shocks, the last about 17th inst. Calmly, peacefully, silent and alone he passed to the silent shore. The family has the sympathy of the entire community in its great affliction. Riceville, Iowa, March 31, 1879. R. T.
