He was born September 29, 1928, in Ottumwa to Earl A. and Anna L. Theilen Lane. He married Icel M. Metcalf on July 1, 1966, in Agency. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2002. A 1947 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bob worked for 31 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring from the accounting department in 1982. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher. He was a member of Ottumwa Noon Lions, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347, Travelers Protective Association, a social member of Knights of Columbus Council #888, a social member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and a social member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving is a son, Robert J. (Becky) Lane of Indianola; a daughter, Debi (Shannon) Lane-Ralston of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Allison Lane, Ryan Lane, R.J. Pike and John Pike. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gray; two sisters, Betty Yoder and Ruth Shoemaker; and a brother, Earl W. Lane. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Shrimplin officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
