Read More	Robert Garland Allen, 88, a businessman and banker in Ramseur for fifty years, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at his residence. A service and celebration of his life will be held at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church at 1511 Main Street, Ramseur, on Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 pm. Officiating, Rev. Josh Kurtz. Burial, Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur. Bob was born April 19, 1927 in Coleridge where his family had been established for several generations. After completing Coleridge School, he attended Oak Ridge Military Institute, served in the US Navy during World War II, then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then joined the Bank of Coleridge at its location in Ramseur where he eventually became Vice-President and Cashier. He founded Allen Insurance Agency in 1958. After the Bank of Coleridge was purchased by First Citizens Bank, Bob served as chairman of the Ramseur branch's board of directors. He also served a term as President of the Young Bankers' Division of the North Carolina Bankers Association. Bob also worked for many years as a director of Hancock Lumber Company and of Hancock Properties. Bob was a member of Concord Methodist Church for many years, serving as a teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. He later moved to Ramseur and became an active member of Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the church finance committee, member of the administrative board, trustee and treasurer. Always a strong civic supporter, he was a former member of the Lion's Club serving terms as President in both Coleridge and Ramseur. He was a 32 degree Mason and Shriner. He also served as a member of the Ramseur School board, and was an active member of the Rams Club Educational Foundation. Bob was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. A favorite activity was spending time with family and friends at UNC football and basketball games. In retirement, he enjoyed many wonderful times vacationing at Litchfield Beach, SC, and Jefferson, NC. The family particularly wishes to recognize neighbor and friend Grant Cheek who provided constant care and companionship in Bob's final months.
