Description	:	At some time following the death of his mother Emma Kerns Miller in 1909, the local Episcopal minister George Allen Gibbons (#139537834) implemented the removal of the younger children of this family to the state orphanage. They were never returned to their father. One child died while in the orphanage, and the others were dispersed to other households. [Robert's middle name Gibbons was namesake to this minister.] Due to his mother's death at a young age, Robert was adopted by the Stallard family (Egbert Theodore Stallard, memorial # 61371309 and Margaret Clementine Speiden Stallard Shed, memorial #204925672) and grew up with these new parents and a sister Lillian. Robert did stay in touch, especially in his adult life, with most of his siblings, and visited with his father at least once. It is said that Robert was the "spitting image" of Edward B. Miller by one who knew them both. When asked what he would title a book about his life, he thought quietly a moment and said, "Stacked Up Years." He seemed very content with that title, although he was never able to make that book happen. He was an excellent writer and Bible teacher until his senior years. Robert G. Miller married Rachel Matilda Delores Ratliff in September 1932, and nine months later their only child Joyce was born. Joyce was the joy and focus of their lives from that day forward. She was named Joyce Clementine Stallard , the middle name being a tribute to Robert's adoptive mother.
