Description	:	In 1714, 900 acres area known as the Thunder Hill Tract was surveyed to a Michael Harlan. Robert Finney purchased this in 1722 and received a patent on it dated 4 August 1733. He sold parts of it to others, including Robert Gilmore. On 9 March 1744, a 29½ acres tract of land on Elk River, now Big Elk Creek, was surveyed for Robert Gilmore. He received a patent grant of this land from Thomas and Richard Penn on 9 July 1748. This tract was bordered on one side by the creek and on the opposite side it adjoined the farm... He sold parts of it to others, including Robert Gilmore. On 9 March 1744, a 29½ acres tract of land on Elk River, now Big Elk Creek, was surveyed for Robert Gilmore. He received a patent grant of this land from Thomas and Richard Penn on 9 July 1748. This tract was bordered on one side by the creek and on the opposite side it adjoined the farm Robert had bought from Finney sometime between 1742 and 1744. On 29 July 1779, Robert deeded to his son, Thomas a “tract of land situated on the Main Branch of Elk River in said County of Chester, 119 acres beginning at a corner of McDowell’s land being apart of the 900 acre patent of Robert Finney from the Proprietors of Pennsylvania.” We do not know what became of the rest of the 240 acres. In 1762, Robert Gilmore purchased about 100 acres in eastern New London. The eastern boundary of this farm was the New London-New Garden township line. In 1780 in his Last Will and Testament he bequeathed to his son, Ephraim Gilmore the 100 acres. In the Taxable list for 1753, Robert Gilmore is mentioned. in the Land Owners in 1774, Robert and Thomas Gilmore names are also mentioned. Robert Gilmore signed his Last Will and Testament on 19 December 1780 and it was proved in Chester County Court on 12 January 1781. Abstract of Robert Gilmore's Last Will and Testament "To son Ephraim Gilmore, all my land in New London being 100 acres. To daughter, Margaret Jordan, a cow & two ewes. To grandson, Samuel Jordan 40 pounds. To Robert Gilmore, my oldest son, 10 pounds, to Thomas Gilmore, one dollar, to son-in law,, Richard Falls and wife, Jane, my daughter, 10 pounds. to son-in-law, Isaac Means and his wife, Nancy, my daughter, 10 pounds, to my grandson Ephraim Jordan, 10 pounds" Witness: Ephraim Gilmore, Robert Correy, Thomas Wiley and Samuel Miller. Robert Gilmore was married (1) Anne, surname unknown. She passed away in child birth. Robert Gilmore married (2) Elizabeth Hunnewell. She passed away prior to 1780.
