Robert “Bob” Glenn Barrett was born in Kimball on Dec. 10, 1945, to Glenn and Erma (Frerichs) Barrett. He was the third of four children. Sports were a big part of his life. He loved playing baseball as a youth. He played football and basketball and ran track in High School. Football is the sport he loved, earning All-Conference Honors in 1963. During the last 50 years, golf became his passion. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jean Morgan, on Aug. 6, 1966. To this union, two daughters and a son were born: Julie, Cindy and Jim. After graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1968, Bob began working at Banner County Bank in Harrisburg, Nebraska. He and his family moved to Basin, Wyoming in 1970 where he was employed at Security State Bank as an Agriculture lender. With the failing health of his father, Bob moved his family back to Kimball and farmed for 25 years before going back to his banking career. As his health failed, he retired from FirsTier Bank in Kimball. Bob loved playing golf with a special group of friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his wonderful grandchildren. Bob served on many boards and committees including St. Joseph’s Church, FirsTier Bank, City Housing Agency, Kimball Public Schools, Ministerial Association, FSA County Committee and the Hospital Foundation. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Barrett of Kimball; children, Julie Barrett-Becker of Westminster Colorado, Cindy Birner (Tom) of Sidney,, and Jim Barrett (Kellie) of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Rachael Becker, Ryan Birner, Kara Birner, Nicole Birner, Anderson Barrett and Aubree Barrett; sisters, Betty Hamzy of Sacramento, California and Judy McMillian of Spokane, Washington; and his mother-in-law Evelyn Morgan, as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Glenda Koenig; father-in-law, Merle Morgan; niece, Troy Hamzy; and great-nephew, Sgt. Nathan Beyers.
