He was born Feb. 5, 1922 to John and Selma (Borreson) Elstad in Bowbells, where he attended school, graduating in 1940. While in high school, he worked at the Bowbells Tribune. He married Dorothy Cron on August 18, 1946 in Bowbells. He worked as the Burke County deputy sheriff for two years and later ran for sheriff. He then worked at the Mobile Station in Bowbells and also ran the movie projector at the Roxy Theater for six years. In 1950, he began work as the office manager at the Mertes Implements. He retired in June 19997. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bowbells and served on the church council. He also served as city auditor. He was a former member of the American Legion in Bowbells and served as its commander from 1956-1957. He carried the U. S. Flag for more than 25 years with the Bowbells Color Guard. Survivors: wife, sons, David of Motley, MN; Bruce of Kimball, MN; daughters, Roberta Drew of Fargo, ND; LuAnn Fay of Center, ND; and one granddaughter; brother Burt Elstad of Fargo, ND and sister, Arlene Ayers of Sheridan, WY Submitted by J.B.
