He must have been visiting his son Peter Field Hanner who had married the daughter of John Gibson, Sarah Ann "Sallie" Gibson, about 1835. He must have died while visiting the local Richmond County (now Scotland County) area. It would have been impossible to get his body back to Guilford County in those days.
