Description	:	Robert H. Bowers, age 66, a longtime Center Point, Iowa resident, died Monday, November 23, 1987 in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a brief illness. Services were held at 1:30 Friday, November 27 at the Center Point High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Alfred C. Clark and Rev. John G. Barnes officiating. Burial was in the Center Point Cemetery with arrangements made by Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point, Iowa. Mr. Bowers was born October 31, 1921 to William and Annie Laura (Antrim) Bowers at Strawberry Point, Iowa. In 1943 he graduated from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa. On June 1, 1946 he married Arleen Doris Mae Hilleshiem in Strawberry Point, Iowa. He taught school for two years at Waterville, Iowa and 38 years in the Center Point school system where he also coached baseball and basketball. He was elected to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1975 and received the Distinguished Service Award, Iowa Football Coaches Association in 1986. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Center Point. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving him are his wife, Arleen; a son, Robert R. Bowers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter, Diane L. Nosek of Marion, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and a great-grandson; a brother George Bowers of Bonita Springs, Florida, and a sister, Donna Hill of Camp Verde, Arizona. A memorial fund was established in his name.
