Description	:	Robert H. Hartman, Sr. was born July 7, 1921 near Point of Rocks, Maryland the son of Edward L. and Mattie Ayres Hartman. He attended the Point of Rocks School through the seventh grade and then he moved to Prince William County Virginia. Hartman, Sr. was born July 7, 1921 near Point of Rocks, Maryland the son of Edward L. and Mattie Ayres Hartman. He attended the Point of Rocks School through the seventh grade and then he moved to Prince William County Virginia. He later worked with his older brother Frank Hartman at the Foxcroft School and Stables in Middleburg Virginia. While working at the Foxcroft School Robert was called upon to serve His Country. He served in the Pacific Theatre with the famous Dixie Division, participating in the final battles of the New Guinea Campaign and then to the Philippine Islands Campaign defeating the Japanese entrenched on mountainous Mindanao Island. He attained the rank of Sergeant. When he was discharged from the Army he returned to his home in the Point of Rocks area and started working for the B&O Railroad as a trackman. He once shared with us an experience he had while working on the Monacacy River trestle--- how he moved out on the end of the cross ties and had a steam locomotive pulling a freight train pass inches from his body. On May 29, 1947, Robert married Mary Louise Harris. They lived at Robert's birthplace until his death, January 7, 1973. Together, they raised two sons and cared for Robert's mother until her death in 1962. After a short time of service with the B&O Railroad, Robert learned the Brick Mason trade, working on many homes and buildings in Maryland and Virginia, including early additions to Frederick Memorial Hospital, the Potomac Edison (now Allegheny Power) electrical power plant in Williamsport, and several residences and structures on the Arthur Godfrey Estate in Waterford, Virginia. Robert had a love for baseball and hunting. He played many years in the Maryland State League with the Point of Rocks Team. The team also included his brothers, Frank, Austin, Claude, and Bud (Charles). Robert coached Little League Baseball and was a volunteer umpire for the MARVA Babe Ruth League. In the 1950's and 1960's Robert was widely known for his hunting dogs, beagles for chasing rabbits and hounds for chasing and treeing raccoons. Robert spent many days and nights in the woods and fields sharing his knowledge and love of the sports with his two sons. Robert welcomed many visitors to his home to discuss dogs and hunting, two of those visitors were up and coming country music singers, Jimmy Dean, and Hawkshaw Hawkins, who were playing the local carnivals or the Brunswick Fire Hall Respectfully Submitted, Robert H.
