Description	:	Robert J. Schneider, 73, died Monday morning, Sept 10, 2001, in York. He was born in York on March 27, 1928, to Henry Jr. and Nellie (Lantz) Schneider. He attended elementary school and high school in York, graduating in 1946. Later he attended York College where he met and married Jean Rasp of Shelby on March 30, 1947. After two years at York College he joined his father operating the Thrift Market, located on the corner of Fifth street and Grant Avenue. He was born in York on March 27, 1928, to Henry Jr. and Nellie (Lantz) Schneider. He attended elementary school and high school in York, graduating in 1946. Later he attended York College where he met and married Jean Rasp of Shelby on March 30, 1947. After two years at York College he joined his father operating the Thrift Market, located on the corner of Fifth street and Grant Avenue. After his father’s death, Bob operated the Thrift Market alone until he sold it and went to work for the First Trust Company in York as a farm manager. He was an employee there for 26 years, retiring in December of 1991. Bob played baseball in the Cornhusker league for many years and later became president of the York Youth Baseball Association. He also served as coach for several little league teams. He was always an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf. He was the York Country Club golf champion several times and he still holds the old course record of 61. He served as president of the York Country Club and was an officer in the Upper Blue Resources District. He loved music and used his beautiful singing voice for the benefit of others. He is preceded in death by his parents, and will be deeply missed by his wife Jean; his son John (Winona) Schneider of Grand Rapids, Mich; daughter, Susie (Jef) Johnston of Omaha; four grandsons, Ryan Johnston, Kyle Johnston, Sol Schneider, and Tom Schneider, two sisters, Mary Ann Roberdeau of York and Nancy (Gordon) Birch of Lincoln. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 am, Sept 15, 2001, at the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York with the Rev Jo Harper. Private inurnment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the Church or Leukemia Research. No visitation. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
