BRADFORD Robert J. Bradford, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bradford of Easton, was born in Easton, March 11, 1893, and passed away Oct. 8, at the age of 25 years, 6 months and 27 days. Death came at the Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, following an operation for appendicitis. After finishing the country school, he attended the Saranac High school, graduating in 1912, then he took a business course at McLachlan's College in Grand Rapids. Shortly after this he went to Detroit, and on Feb. 20, 1917 was married to Miss Estella Trombly of Merrill. They lived in Detroit where Robert had a position in the office of the Burroughs Adding machine Co., until last March when they moved onto his father's farm in Keene township. He was an exemplary young man, kind, honest, a great comfort to his family, and loved by all who knew him. Besides his grief stricken wife and parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Dillwyn Culver of Detroit, brother Fred of Camp Custer, Walter, Libby and John at home, a grandmother, Mrs. Robert McKendry of Ionia, besides a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. E. E. Branch at the home at 10:30 Friday morning, and was largely attended by sympathizing relatives and friends. He was carried to his last resting place in the family lot in Easton cemetery by six former schoolmates: Royal Hawley, Clarence Conner, Dumont Hart , Almer Potter, Leon Hale and Noah Bishop, and buried mid a profusion of flowers. Deceased was a member of Detroit lodge, I. O. O. F., the lodge of Saranac assisting in the burial service, Relatives from Saginaw, Merrill, Detroit, Alma, Belding and Ionia attended the funeral, the brother from Camp Custer being unable to reach her until Friday evening. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the whole community, during these dark hours. We cannot say, we will not say, That Robert is dead. He is just "away." With a cherry smile, and a wave of his hand, He has wondered into an unknown land. And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you who deeply mourn and yearn For the old-time step, and the glad return. Think of him living on, as dear In the home above, a she was here. Think of him still as the same, each day, That he has gone before, is just "away."
