Fendrich, son of William and Anna (Schoeberl) Fendrich, was born June 29, 1912 in Salem, SD. Robert grew up and received his education in Salem and as a young man worked on the family farm. Fendrich, 93, died Friday, June 23, 2006 at Avera McKennan Hospice. Robert J. Fendrich, son of William and Anna (Schoeberl) Fendrich, was born June 29, 1912 in Salem, SD. Robert grew up and received his education in Salem and as a young man worked on the family farm. On July 30, 1935 he married Della Sabers in Salem, SD. After their marriage, the couple then moved to Sioux Falls where they made their home. On February 28, 1950 Robert was called in active service in the United States Air National Guard. While serving part-time in the Air Guard, Robert worked as a mechanic for the city of Sioux Falls. He retired in 1974 after 27 years of work. Robert was honorably discharged from his military service in 1977. In his free time, Robert enjoyed doing many things. He could always be found out in his garage either trying to fix something or just tinkering with the many different projects he had going at the time. He also enjoyed going to various auction sales around the area and listening to Polka music. Robert and his wife, Della loved to travel to softball and basketball games to watch their grandsons and son-in-law play. They were at every game rain or shine. Most of all, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, a caring father and a wonderful grandfather who will be greatly missed in each and every life that he touched. Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Shirley (Roger) Ferrie, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandsons, Michael (Coni) Ferrie, Bruce (Connie) Ferrie, Pat (Sandy) Ferrie, all of Sioux Falls, Jim (Bretta) Ferrie, Phoenix, AZ, and Brad (Ann) Ferrie, Lee's Summit, MO; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marilyn Fendrich, Salem, SD. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson, Spencer Ferrie. Burial at St. Michael Cemetery.
