Robert (Bob) Jacob Buehler, 89, from Emery, SD passed away after battling cancer on November 22 having been born in 1931 to John and Helen (Guenthner) Buehler. Bob often shared a story about the day of his birth that his father and uncle had made a trip to Iowa to purchase a train carload of grain and corn. Upon their arrival back in Emery they found the banks were closed, thankfully another family member had a money belt with sufficient amount of money to purchase the grain which was used to feed the livestock with the pigs being sold later that year for approximately 56 cents per pound. He grew up during the great depression when many had nothing. Bob grew up in Emery, first leaving the area when he joined the 85th Infantry in Ft. Riley, Kansas in 1953. By 1955, he had returned to the Emery area with his wife Shirley (Marken) Buehler to start on the next passion of his life, which was farming. In his spare time, he continued to serve his community as part of the church session, Pleasant Township board, Hanson County Soil Conservation, and helping to start the Hanson Rural Water System. His wife had asked him to go take dancing lessons to have an activity they could share together. Even in the dance, he found a way to serve his community by coordinating polka festivals at the Mitchell Corn Palace. Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley; 3 children, Timothy and Elaine (Stroud) and their children, Amy, Danielle, John and Andrew; Paul and Tina (Bracha) and their children, Tara (Nick) Skonhovd, Trista (Keegan) Bak, Tessa, and Jacob; and Cyndi (Mark) Fischer and their children, Mark Jr, Blake, Clay, and Cathy; great-granddaughter, Lydia Grace; siblings, Marjorie Nebelsick, William, Dorothy Conner, and Karen (Robert) Fuller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; two children, Daniel John and Stephen Lee; siblings, Duane, James (Darlene), Marjorie, and Art. The family requests sending memorial contributions to Midwest Honor Flight for Veterans. - Bittner Funeral Chapel
