Mr. Dickenson, who was manager of the Shoup & Sons Elevator for 35 years, died Friday, June 12, at University Hospital in Omaha from cancer. Services were held Monday afternoon from the Paxton United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Flader as officiant. Memorials have been established to the Paxton United Methodist Church and the 40&8 Nursing Fund. He was born June 4, 1925, in Northport, Morrill County, Neb., the son of William and Julian Wilson Dickenson. He attended schools I the Panhandle of Nebraska and Chadron Prep High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy Seabees (Construction Battalion), serving as a heavy equipment operator until his discharge I 1946, at which time he moved to North Platte and married Lois Mae Powell Feb. 15, 1947, in Oberlin, Kan. He worked for Myrl Powell, his father-in-law, in the petroleum business in Paxton and for Central Nebraska Pack and later with Shoup & Sons, here he was elevator manager 35 years. After his retirement, he worked for area farmers. He was a longtime member of Hankins-Miller American Legion Post and was Past Commander. A member of the North Platte Voiture 1068 of the 40&8, he served as Nebraska Grand Chef de Gare (state president) in 1991-1992. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Paxton and served on the church board. He was a longtime member of the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department and had served as chief. He also served several years on the Paxton Village Board and was past chairman. H was preceded in death by a son, Donald, who died while serving in the armed forces and a sister, Juanita Jessop. Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Paxton; two sons, Jim and wife Melba and Ward Dickenson, all of Alliance; a sister, Darla Dickenson of Ogallala; a brother, Wayne Dickenson of North Platte; and two grand-children, Jamie Dickenson of Ogallala and Vicki of Alliance.
