Children born to his parents in order of birth are: Charles (Mike) Kirsch, Robert (Jim or Himmy) Kirsch, Patrick (Pat) Kirsch, Donald (Don) Kirsch, Kenneth (Lightning) Kirsch, Paul (Santa Claus) Kirsch, Peggy (Kirsch) Hutchinson, Jeffery (Pork or Jeff) Kirsch, Terry (Kirsch) Herrig, Kathy (Kirsch) Johnson, and Janice (Bell) Kirsch. In 1949, Jim moved with his parents to a farm outside of Laurens, Pocahontas County, Iowa. He attended Laurens Community School and High School in Laurens, Pocahontas County, Iowa from Kindergarten until he graduated with the Class of 1967. In 1970 Jim went onto attend college at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa and graduated after having completed the 2 year Mechanical Drafting program there. He was employed soon after as a civil engineer by Mer Engineering in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Jim went onto further his college education at Iowa State University, recieving bachelors and masters degrees in engineering After college, he spent a great deal of time at his young brother Don (Kathy) Kirsch's house at 311 Allen Street in Laurens, Iowa playing with his nieces Holly and Christy Kirsch. The girls have many fond memories of him including "Uncle Himmy" buying them their first swing set and setting it up as they watched on in excitement. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War along with his brother Mike on March 21, 1968 and both later returned home to Laurens, Iowa on March 12, 1970. In 1985, Jim moved away from home to work as a full-time civil engineer in Tulsa, Oklahoma and on his trips back home, he met single mother Deanne Korf in Manson, Iowa and her two boys Justin and Todd Korf. They were subsequently engaged on April 24, 1988 and were married at the New Life Fellowship Church in Pomeroy, Iowa on May 21, 1988. Deanne is the daughter of Velda Alveda (Buffinton) Korf and Alfred Korf. Deanne and sons moved with Jim to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma after their marriage where he resided the rest of his life with his family. In 2005, Jim was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease and was able to make it home that Christmas to his sister Terry Herrig's house for one last large family Christmas with his siblings and many nieces and nephews before he passed away surrounded by family on November 29, 2006 at home in Broken Arrow, OK. Amis-Kennard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, no funeral was held in OK. He was brought back home to Laurens, Iowa where a private family funeral and burial were arranged by Powers Funeral Home in Laurens, Iowa. The Funeral was held at the church in Marathon, Iowa near where his mother gave birth to him at home on the farm. He was then buried next to his parents and Uncle Raymond Kirsch in the Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Pocahontas County, Iowa. His Nieces and Nephews were honorary pallbearers and his brothers the actual pallbearers who laid their brother to rest. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew: Mark Adrian Kirsch and a great nephew.
