Description	:	Funeral Services and Inurnment for Joe Farner, President and CEO of the Farner Co., of Norfolk, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Episcopal Church and Columbarium Courtyard, in Norfolk. The Rev. Robert Schlismann officiated with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 1644, the American Legion Post 16 and the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard. Born the son Floyd D. and Ethel (Lund) Farner, he was the grandson of Swiss immigrant, Sophet and Louisa (Neiter) Farner and Lars and Anna (Martinson) Lund, of Swedish parents, and all Nebraskans. Growing up in Norfolk, he attended Norfolk High School and graduated from Omaha-Benson High School. He was a University of Nebraska graduate with B.A. Degree in Business Administration. From 1950 - 1954, he served in the U.S. Air Force and during this time he married Dorothy "Sandy" Sand, daughter of Albert and Lillian Sand, of Omaha, and the granddaughter of Enoch and Helen Marie (Trybom) Sand. Blessed with 4 children, the couple raised their family in Norfolk, where he was the Sherwin-Williams General Manager. By 1960, he established the Farner Co., specializing in wholesaling candy, tobacco and sundries to stores throughout Northeast Nebraska. He remained active in the business and his community for the next 52 years serving as a past president of the Nebraska Candy and Tobacco Association, a member of the Norfolk City Council; the American Legion, The Elks, and past president and lifetime member of the Norfolk Country Club. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served on the Vestry and as a Warden. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandy, in 1999; and his sister, Bonnie Evans, in 2008. Survivors include: his children, Kathy (Mike) Siemsglusz, David (Gigi) Farner, Barb (Stan) Kruse and Patty (Randy) Simpson, all of Norfolk; his surviving elder sibling, a brother, Dr. Gordon Noble "Jack" (Jeanne) Farner of OH/FL; 11 grandchildren: Joe Farner, Sonet Smutny, Carly Cordell, Kylie Knull, Chad and Craig Siemsglusz, Kasey Headlee, Jenny Fundus, Sara Ames, Beau and Tia Simpson; 13 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces. ========================= Per family request, memorials may be made in Joe's memory to: the Trinity Episcopal Church Courtyard Project, the "Memory Support Unit at Heritage of Bel Air", or the "S.M.I.L.E."
