Description	:	Robert J. Ruff, 94, longtime Moses Lake, Washington resident, died in an assisted living facility in Portland, Oregon on September 5, 2015. The third of John and Pauline Ruff's six children, Bob was born in 1921 on a farm near Ruff, Washington. He lived and farmed in the Moses Lake area his entire life. Bob was most proud of his service in General Patton's Third Army tank corps during World War II when he saw action in the invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Liberation of Paris, and crossing the Rhine River. He... Read More	Robert J. Ruff, 94, longtime Moses Lake, Washington resident, died in an assisted living facility in Portland, Oregon on September 5, 2015. The third of John and Pauline Ruff's six children, Bob was born in 1921 on a farm near Ruff, Washington. He lived and farmed in the Moses Lake area his entire life. Bob was most proud of his service in General Patton's Third Army tank corps during World War II when he saw action in the invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Liberation of Paris, and crossing the Rhine River. He was awarded the Purple Heart, five battle stars and a special commendation from the Government of France for his service, and proudly carried the American flag in many Veteran's Day parades. Always the favorite uncle who donned the Santa suit at Christmas to hand out the presents, Bob is survived by his brother, Edwin Ruff of Boise, Idaho, and seven nieces and nephews. Bob was especially fond of his friends at the coffee group at McDonald's where he loved chatting about the weather and the price of wheat. A celebration of Bob's long life is being planned for sometime in early October. Internment of his ashes will be in the Ruff cemetery. ref: Columbia Basin Herald, September 21, 2015
