Dotzler August 4, 1927 - September 30, 2017 Robert Joseph Dotzler, son of Joseph and Leona (Grobmeier) Dotzler, was born August 4, 1927 in Defiance, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. He attended school at St. Peter's Catholic School, where he graduated with the class of 1944 at the age of sixteen. On October 2, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Jeanette Kloewer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. Four children were born to this union: Janie, Nancy, Mike and Debbie. After their marriage, Bob and Jeanette lived in Harlan where he was employed as a carpenter. In 1953, they were offered a farm to rent which they worked until 1970. During this time he also did construction work. On December 15, 1969, he was offered a job with Farmers Home Administration as a construction inspector for fourteen counties in Northwest Iowa, with the main office in Storm Lake, Iowa. They lived in Storm Lake until he was transferred to the state office as a construction analyst. They moved from Storm Lake to Ankeny where they lived until he retired in 1990. They moved to Defiance, where they built a new home in town in 1994. Bob was a long time member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. Bob died at his home surrounded by his family in Defiance on Saturday, September 30, 2017, attaining the age of ninety years, one month and twenty-six days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Dotzler and sister Grace Wilwerding. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Dotzler of Defiance, Iowa; children Janie and her husband John Bruck of Omaha, Nebraska; Nancy and her husband Myron Schaben of Defiance, Iowa; Mike Dotzler and his wife Diane of Boone, Iowa; Debbie and her husband Dennis Pfeifer of Arlington, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers Raymond Dotzler of Omaha, Nebraska; Donald Dotzler of Defiance, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends. His parents, Joseph Benedict, born March 21, 1906, and Leona Marie Grobmeier Dotzler, born July 1, 1906, came to Defiance in 1913 and 1919. Robert has three brothers, Raymond born 1929, Kenneth born 1931, and Donald born 1937, and one sister, Grace (Mrs. Ed Wilwerding), deceased. Robert married Jeanette Marie Kloewer on october 2, 1950. Both are graduates of St. Paul's School. Jeanette Marie was born in Earling October 13, 1929, the daughter of AI and Eva Peerman Kloewer. Jeanette has 12 brothers and sisters. Bob farmed and was a contractor in Defiance for 19 years, before he joined Farmers Home Administration in December, 1969, as a construction inspector for 14 northwest Iowa counties. He was then transferred to the state office in Des Moines as a construction analyst in 1979 and the family now lives in Ankeny. They have four children: Jane Marie (Mrs. John Bruck) of Earling has five children, Christina 1972, Jennifer 1973, Angela 1974, Jeffrey 1978 and Katie 1980. Nancy Ann (Mrs. Myron Schaben) of Earling has four children, Nicole 1972, Jill 1974, Annie 1976, and Emily 1980. Michael Donald married Diane Schaben and they have one child, Sara Kay 1979. Debra Mary is at home in Ankeny.
