Description	:	Robert K. "Pidge" Nichols, Sr., 78, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at Burlington Medical Center. Born August 10, 1916, at Burlington, he was the son of Charles H. and Ortha Gibson Nichols. He married Harriet Wolfe August 27, 1937, at Morning Sun. He was a 1934 graduate of Morning Sun High School and then worked for the S. S. Kresge Company in various locations. Born August 10, 1916, at Burlington, he was the son of Charles H. and Ortha Gibson Nichols. He married Harriet Wolfe August 27, 1937, at Morning Sun. He was a 1934 graduate of Morning Sun High School and then worked for the S. S. Kresge Company in various locations. He moved back to Morning Sun in 1943 and was the owner operator of Nichols Produce for about 30 years. He later worked at General Electric in Burlington, retiring in 1981. Mr. Nichols was an active member of the United Methodist Church and was a noted soloist in church and surrounding communities. He was a charter and 40-year member of the Morning Sun Lions Club, served three terms as mayor of Morning Sun, and was a member of the Republican Central Committee to elect Ronald Reagan. He was selected as "kernel of the Iowa Corn" for outstanding community affairs by the Des Moines Register. He was also a member of the National Rifleman's Association. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, golf and other outdoor activities and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He also wrote many published editorials for local newspapers. Survivors include his wife; his twin daughters, Sherry Robb and Merry Bonar, both of Morning Sun; a son, Robert Junior of Morning Sun; two sisters, Pauline Tonkinson of Yarmouth, and Corrine Owens of Wilcox, Arizona; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. The family will receive friends from 7 to, 8:30 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun. The funeral for Mr. Nichols will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Morning Sun with the Reverends Chris Ebbers and Tom Zelany officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club of Morning Sun.
