Nicholas, 93, of Sarasota, Fla., a former Monticello resident, who died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Ashton Place, Sarasota, Fla. He was born on Jan. 21, 1911 at Monticello, to Alva and Mabel Craig Nicholas. He married Ruth B. Brown Nicholas on July 21, 1934 at Monticello. She died May 6, 2004. Nicholas, 93, of Sarasota, Fla. SARASOTA, Fla. — Word has been received of the death of Robert L. Nicholas, 93, of Sarasota, Fla., a former Monticello resident, who died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Ashton Place, Sarasota, Fla. He was born on Jan. 21, 1911 at Monticello, to Alva and Mabel Craig Nicholas. He married Ruth B. Brown Nicholas on July 21, 1934 at Monticello. She died May 6, 2004. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theater. He owned and operated Nicholas Dry Cleaning here for 21 years. He joined McClintic Insurance as an agent in 1964, where he was employed for 12 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Monticello First Presbyterian Church. He was a former Kiwanis member and Goodfellow member in Monticello. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Masonic Lodge in Monticello. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and the Shrine Club. He lived in the Monticello area most of his life. He had lived in Sarasota, Fla., since 1982. Survivors include a son, Kent (Diana) Nicholas of Cataumet, Mass.; and a granddaughter, Beth Nicholas of England. Services will be conducted at a later date in the spring. Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
