Son of Robert Lester Brown and Juanita Leone Allen OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, April 22, 1999 BROWN Robert Lee (Bobby) Brown, the first son of Robert L. and Juanita Allen Brown, was born in Wright Township, Wayne County, Iowa, Sept. 9, 1931 and passed away April 16, 1999 at his home only an eighth of a mile from his birth place, in the presence of his loving family. He was 67 years, seven months and seven days old. Bob graduated from Corydon High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served four years, of which eleven months were in Korea. He returned from the service and started farming in Wayne County. Bob had a love for horses and border collies at an early age. He participated in saddle clubs and in the 70's his good buddies, Lee Dotts and Eldon Fetters, gave him the bug to own draft horses, with which they worked, played and pulled some antics on one another. Then it was time to try draft mules. Bob worked his mules cultivating corn, raking ray, giving hay rides to youth groups, showing at the Iowa State Fair, parading and also went on a cattle drive in South Dakota. In the 1980's, Jerry and Rick Williams got him interested in cutting horses. He shopped around for the right horse and with the help of Danny Fetters, he found the perfect horse, Pacman Player, and the fun began. Bob and Wanda purchased a motor home so they could attend cutting events out of state. He participated in competitions in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio and Kansas, at which time he met many new friends. Bob was a member of the Gateway Cutting Horse Association, State of Missouri Cutting Horse Association, East Missouri Cutting Horse Association, Midwest Cutters and Iowa Cutting Horse Association. He served as past president of the South Central Iowa Quarter Horse Association. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita; a sister, Patty Sue Hawke; and stepmother, Gladys. He leaves his beloved wife, Wanda; son, Mark and wife Joyce of Russell; daughter, Kim and husband Tom Swearingin of Corydon; son, Troy and wife Sarah of Promise City; five granddaughters; father, Robert L. Brown of Corydon; two brothers, Alan of Promise City and Stan of Corydon; sister, Shirley Paul and husband Craig of Huntington Beach, Calif.; along with a host of other relatives and friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all. Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. at the Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa, with Pastor Dale Shadonix officiating. Interment will be at the Confidence Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernie Beutenmiller, Jr., Mike Vorthman, Bill Sapp, Phil VandeKamp, Jerry Williams and Rick Williams, all friends from the Cutting Horse Association. Honorary bearers were Eldon Fetters, Lester Dotts, Ted Hughes, Carl Martin, Paul Smith, Carl Bennett and Larry Kessler.
