Read More	Name: Robert Lee Snead Born: 15 Apr 1912, Hinsdale, Valley Co., Montana Died: 11 Jan 1998, Clark Co., Washington Robert Lee Snead Sr. was born April 15, 1912 to Nettie Boalke and Thomas B. Snead in Hinsdale Valley County MT. He always said it was the day the Titanic sank. There was always a little Montana cowboy in him. He played the harmonica and always whistled when he worked. He was named for General Robert E. Lee because his grandfather had known General Lee during the civil war. When my dad was six the family moved to Butte MT so his father could work in the copper mines. The next year the miners went on strike so the family moved to Belfry MT where his dad was hurt in a coal mining accident. When his father was able to work again they moved to Pullman WA. It was here, in 1925 that his mother died in childbirth, as did the baby. A few months later the family moved to Ridgefield WA and lived in the Sara area. My dad went to Sara school, was a member of the Boy Scouts and joined the Army in 1935. He met Phyllis Schleicher, also from Sara, and they married on June 3, 1939. They had three children. Netta (Groat) was born at the Muffett home North of Ridgefield in 1940. Robert L. Jr. was born in Portland OR in 1941 where my dad worked on a dairy farm on Sauvie Island OR. Jim was born in 1944 in Vancouver WA. Dad went to work for the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway Co. as a boilermaker's helper. Later he worked for Alcoa Aluminum until 1959 went he went to Bremerton WA to work at the Navel Shipyard. He retired in 1976 and moved back to Sara. His entire life he had a passion for picking up rocks wherever he journeyed. He took them home, shined them up in his tumbler and made many fine belt buckles, jewelry, napkin holders and anything he could think of. He was involved with starting the South Ridge Branch of the Community of Christ Church and later became an Elder of the church. He passed away January 11, 1998 at his home in Sara. When he comes to get me I will know him by his whistling and it will fill my heart to hear him once again. Robert was survived by his wife Phyllis and children Robert, Netta, and James. He had ten grand children and sixteen great grand children. Written by Robert L Snead Jr.
