ROBERT LEE WOBBE Friday, January 15, 2010 Fort Scott Tribune Robert Lee Wobbe, 82, of Jacksonville, Ore., died on Dec. 17, 2009. Robert was born in Uniontown, Kan., on Oct. 6, 1927 to Henry Clay and Beulah (Hite) Wobbe. He attended Uniontown High School and remained close to his classmates. He and his parents moved to Medford where he attended Medford Senior High. He graduated with his class of 1945. Robert served in the US Navy from 1945 through 1952. He attended Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. He obtained his Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. He taught fifth grade 30 years, and was Vice Principal at Roosevelt Elementary School. During his tenure at Medford School District he was instrumental in developing the Safety Patrol Program. He retired from Roosevelt in 1985. He spent many summers working for Tru-Mix, and Nalley's Foods. He also was successful in selling World Books to many local families. Throughout his life, Robert was dedicated to many programs, such as Boy Scouts of America, and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to young people. He also traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a National Jamboree. He was a founding member of the Rogue Snowmobilers and was active in the Elks Club, and was a member of The Moose Lodge, and a Pioneer Member of the Southern Oregon Historical Society. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking. In celebration of the national bicentennial he and his companion hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from the California-Oregon border to the Canadian border. Survivors include his children Glenna, Coquille, Ore., Shirley, Medford, Ore., Dana, Medford, Ore.; Douglas, Beaverton, Ore., and Suzanne Sisters, Ore., nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves numerous great close friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Beulah Wobbe and his sister, Roberta Wobbe. A memorial service will be held on Jan. 23, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Conger-Morris, Central Point Chapel, 800 South Front Street Central Point, Ore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be mailed to the Humane Society of Southern Oregon 2910 Table Rock Rd. Medford, Ore., 97501, or the Dogs for the Deaf, Inc. 10175 Wheeler Rd. Central Point, Ore., 97502.
