He was born in Durham, NC on March 1, 1936 to the late Vance LeRoy Northcutt and Lorena Braswell Northcutt. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Braswell Northcutt and daughter-in-law, Terri Hamilton Northcutt. He was born in Durham, NC on March 1, 1936 to the late Vance LeRoy Northcutt and Lorena Braswell Northcutt. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Braswell Northcutt and daughter-in-law, Terri Hamilton Northcutt. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn (Kay) Linthicum Northcutt, his daughter Diane Clouse and husband Gene, son Robert L. Northcutt, Jr. (Lee) and six grandchildren: Robert, Charlie, Katie, Ashley, James (J.P.) and Bennett. Bob showed leadership qualities early in life. He was a safety patrol in elementary school and junior high student council President. He played varsity basketball at Durham High School and was a class officer. The son of an entrepreneur, he learned early on the value of hard work and was expected to help in his father's business. In 1958 Bob graduated with a Business degree from Wake Forest College, having spent 2 years at the old campus and 2 years at the new school in Winston-Salem. His most enduring memories were of his time in the brotherhood of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Post college, Bob was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. He also met Kay Linthicum of Durham, who would become his wife in August of 1959. After completion of active duty service, Bob continued in the National Guard and also took a job with Archer Products, a RJ Reynolds subsidiary. His work as a manufacturing manager eventually took the family to Greeneville, TN, where he and Kay raised their two children. In 1981, Bob and Kay returned to Winston-Salem, so he could finish his career. They were active in their church and were cheering fans at many games of Wake Forest University's athletic teams, both men's and women's. Then in 2008, they made their last move to Wake Forest to be closer to family. Bob will be remembered as someone who sought to contribute to his community and make it better. During his time in Greeneville, TN, he was instrumental in getting a YMCA and a library built. He served as President and Chairman of Fundraising for the United Way, President of the Kiwanis Club, and President of the Administration Board at Asbury United Methodist Church. Bob was a faithful, enthusiastic member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem and later at Wake Forest United Methodist Church, having overseen the construction of Family Life Centers in both places. He excitedly gave countless volunteer hours to the Wake Forest Historical Museum. There was nothing that he would rather talk about than all things Wake Forest. He was proud to be a Deacon! Bob will be interred in a family plot in Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary, NC. Service arrangements will be posted when available.
