Comfort, 94, of Blencoe died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. Memorial services wiere Friday at Blencoe United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mary Wells officiating. Private graveside services were in Graceland Cemetery. Robert L. Comfort was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Blencoe, the son of Burr and Mildred (McKibben) Comfort. He graduated from high school at Blencoe Consolidated School in 1932. He and Frances Lindley were united in marriage on July 16, 1933, in Blair, Neb. The couple made their home in Blencoe, where he served the Blencoe area in the oil business for 40 years, retiring in 1976. The couple were blessed with 75 years of marriage, until Frances' death on Sept. 11, 2008. He was a more than 50-year member of Blencoe United Church of Christ and served on many church boards throughout the years. He was a member of the Blencoe Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, drove a school bus for 26 years, served on the town council for 10 years and was a township trustee for six years. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Sally and Dr. Howard Voss of Stuart, Fla., Susan and Harry Carrier of Largo, Fla., and Letitia "Tish" and Richard Green of Napa, Calif.; four grandchildren, Julia Maycock and Jill Thornton of East Hamilton, Mass., Randy and Karen Maycock of San Francisco, Calif., Amanda and Matt Rousu of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Tracy and Ben Webster of Napa, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Isaac Maycock, Jacob Rousu, Allison Rousu and Ezekiel Rousu; and a brother-in-law, Murray Luther of Adel, Iowa. In addition to his wife, Frances, he was also preceded in death by his parents; and a stepsister, Myrtle Luther.
