Description	:	Bob Fountain, son of Albert and Alice McConnell Fountain, was born near Lone Tree, Iowa on May 27, 1899. He was one of four children. When he was four months old Bob was taken to Boulder, Colo., to live in the home of his aunt. When he was 15 he moved to Sabetha and graduated from Sabetha High School. When he was four months old Bob was taken to Boulder, Colo., to live in the home of his aunt. When he was 15 he moved to Sabetha and graduated from Sabetha High School. Bob began working as a young man for the Sherwood Pharmacy in Sabetha. On July 7, 1918, he was united in marriage to the former Lulu Kleopfer. To this union were born twin sons, Albert and Robert. After working for the Sherwood store for nearly 10 years Bob moved to Denver, Colo., and attended the Capital College of Pharmacy. He then worked for a drug company there for a time. In 1929 he purchased the Sherwood Pharmacy which he owned and operated as the Fountain Drug Store until 1954. Bob was a long time member of the Sabetha United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Sabetha Masonic Lodge #162 AF&AM since 1924; the York Rite of Seneca, Scottish Rite of Topeka and Arab Temple of the Shrine of Topeka. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Hiawatha #1741. Upon retirement, Bob filled in at the drug store on a part time basis and enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture. In December of 1979 Bob suffered a severe stroke and was hospitalized for two months. He entered the Apostolic Christian Home in February of 1980. He died there Wednesday, August 10. Bob will be remembered as the owner and operator of the Fountain Drug Store, a common hangout for the young people in Sabetha. He treated them fairly and had the respect of Sabetha's youth for many years. He was a registered pharmacist in Kansas and Colorado for many years and enjoyed his profession. Surviving Bob are his wife, Lulu of the home; twin sons, Robert, Jr., of Indianapolis, Ind., and Albert of Sequim, Wash.; a sister, Florence Williamson of Los Angeles, Calif., and four grandchildren. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 13 in the Popkess Mortuary chapel. Rev. Calvin H. Dickinson officiated. Marsha Strahm, organist, played selected hymns. Masonic services were conducted by Sabetha Masonic Lodge #162, AF&AM. Serving as casketbearers were: Joe Beyer, Dale Brey, Edward Garber, Edward Garber, Jr., Ben Longberg, and Earl McQuillen. Honorary casketbearers were: Lester Alderfer, Wilbur Haxton, Lin Henry, Clay Walker, Harold Wolf and Harry Zimmerschied. Interment was in the Isely Cemetery, north of Fairview. Memorials were made to the building fund of the Sabetha Masonic Lodge and left in care of the funeral home. --The Sabetha Herald, August 17, 1983
