OBITUARY: Aug. 5, 1999 -Nevada Journal Robert Marion Bishop, 75, of Jewell, died of heart failure on Saturday, July 31, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Radcliffe to Emmett and Theresa (Lumming) Bishop. He and the family moved to the Shipley community whe he was 1 year old. He graduated from Shipley Consolidated School and attended Iowa State University. On Sept. 11, 1943, he married LaDena Sloniger in Story City. They lived in Mississippi and Texas during his stay in the Army Air Corps., after which they lived in the Shipley community and farmed. They left Nevada in 1972 and moved to Story City for the next four years. they moved to their present home in Jewell in 1976. Bob was a full partner in Bishop Implement in Webster City. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, Nevada masonic Lodge #99 AF & AM, Nevada Eastern Star, Story City American Legion, 40&8, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating. Survivors include his wife, LaDena, of Jewell; two daughters, Marlu Bishop of New York City and Cora Lee Collis of Ankeny, two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Lorine Knutson of Radcliffe, Mary Cochran of Hopkins, Mo.; and Barbara Stahl of Folsum, Calif.; and two brothers, Russell Bishop of Webster City and George Bishop of Stewartsville, Mo.. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, a daughter, Robin; and two grandsons, Daron Frank and Robert Dean Collis. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City with Pastor Durwood Clauson officiating. The body was to be cremated following the service. Memorial may be sent to Friends of Conservation Trust for the Lakeside Lodge. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
