Snyder, 55, a well-known resident of Modoc shot himself through the heart, death resulting instantly. The shooting occurred shortly after supper had been served at the Snyder home. At the close of the meal Mr. Snyder asked his wife for the oil can stating he wanted to oil and clean the revolver. Mr. Snyder had been running a store at Modoc for some time and had been sleeping in a shanty adjoing the store to protect his property should the occasion arise. After obtaining the oil can he went to the shanty where he slept and a few minutes later the report of a gun was heard. Members of the family rushed to the building, but when they arrived Mr. Snyder was dead. Coroner L. F. Jones of Athens happened to be in Glouster Sunday afternoon and was at the scene of the shooting about 30 minutes after it occurred. An examination conducted by the coroner showed that Mr. Snyder had removed the clip of loaded cartridges from the gun and had started to clean it. One cartridge had been left in the barrel of the gun and this was exploeded while Mr. Snyder was handling the weapon, the bullet piercing his heart. Following an investigation of the case, Coroner Jones returned to this city Sunday evening. While here he said his verdict would be accidental shooting. Mr. Snyder had been a resident of Modoc for several years and was an active political worker in that territory. Four years ago he made to race for township trustee and lacked but a few votes of winning in a hot campaign. Mr. Snyder leaves his wife, ten sons, and one daughter. One son, William, is married and resides in Millfield, while the others live at home. Children at home are; James, John, Carl, Frank, Marion, Clyde, Richard, Hugh, Eugene, and Faye. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Modoc home, conducted by the Rev. Miles E. Hoon of this city. Burial will be made in the cemetery at Hollister.
